Statement from Wayne Anderson Racing Regarding Future Races with the Florida United Promoters’ Series.

December 2, 2013 Comments Off Uncategorized, Wayne's World

Wildwood, Florida  (October 16, 2013)  After careful consideration of recent events with the Florida United Promoters Series (FUPS), points leader Wayne Anderson and Randy Anderson,  5th place in points, have made the decision to no longer compete in the Series.

After the event at Citrus County Speedway on September 14, 2013 Wayne Anderson was approached in his pit area by a crew member of another competitor.  After a verbal exchange, the crew member shoved Wayne and Wayne defended himself.  The Citrus County Sheriff was called in and determined that Wayne was defending himself and that the crew member was wrong for entering the Anderson pit area.  No disqualification or penalty was spoken of that night.

On Wednesday September 18, 2013 Wayne received a phone call from the Series Director stating that he would be penalized 25 points and fined $250.00.  The Series was informed by multiple track promoters that the crew member was wrong for entering Wayne’s pit area and they suggested leaving up to the Sheriff. The series went forward with the penalty. This is one of many reasons Citrus County Speedway has removed itself from the Series.

Wayne was willing to pay the fine and still compete for the Florida United Promoters’ Series Championship even though he strongly disagreed with this decision.

Early in the 2013 season, Wayne and the Series Director spoke about the ability for Randy Anderson to compete for rookie of the Year with the Florida United Promoters Series.  After reviewing the rules, it was determined that pursuant to Section P paragraph 2. of the Series rulebook Randy had not competed in more than three FUPS events in 2012, had not won a track championship in Late Models or Super Late Models and had not won a FUPS race and therefore was eligible to run for the Rookie of the Year program.

As of this date Randy was leading the Rookie points, has run 80% of the 2013 FUPS schedule and is a member.  On  October 14, 2013 Wayne Anderson discovered that the series may not be considering Randy a rookie.  When he found this out, Wayne called the Series director and was told that Randy was not eligible because he was a Co-Rookie of the Year with the Florida All Star Tour.  The director was informed that this information was incorrect and that Randy was not Rookie of the Year that year and reminded the Series Director of their conversation earlier in the season.  By the FUPS rule book, it is Anderson’s contention that Randy is still eligible for this program; however, they were notified today that Randy will not be eligible.  This is a slap in the face of Randy Anderson.

There have been many incidents, these are merely the most recent with the Florida United Promoters Series. We feel these actions are the result of one individual’s vendetta and after great thought and consideration, we have determined that it is in the best interest of Wayne Anderson Racing and the Anderson family NOT to support this type of egregious behavior.  If these same circumstances were to happen to another racer, we would feel the same way for them.

Wayne Anderson’s response regarding this past weekend’s race at Auburndale Speedway.

The motor in the 77 car at Auburndale Speedway was tossed out because the seals were not approved by the Florida United Promoters series, which is false. There have been several FUP races this year with Byron Koury Engines. I won the Clyde Hart FUP race with a Byron Koury spec, set fast time at Citrus, finished 4th with no tech problems. Alan Bruns had a Byron Koury spec engine at the Clyde Hart FUP race with no problems. Randy Anderson raced the FUP race at Lake City with this same motor and car from Saturday night and had no problems. Todd Allen finished 3rd at the last FUP race at New Smyrna with a Byron Koury spec and had no problems. Rex said in the driver’s meeting Saturday that the race was being run under FUP series rules. So how can you say the motor isn’t legal after Saturday nights race?

There was a meeting at New Smyrna Speedway with Steve from Progressive Engines, Jimmy Cope from Cope Engines, Dave from CRE, Byron Koury from Byron Koury Engines, Robert Hart, Kim Brown, Butch Pierce, Alan Bruns, Danny Allen, Dick Anderson, and myself. It was agreed that the 5 motors that were built or rebuilt by Byron Koury Engines were grandfathered in. Byron Koury was asked not to build any more, which he agreed.

Let me start by saying that the motor did not win the race Saturday night. We would have ran 2nd if the 07 had not broke a rear end. The 77 car was a limited engine carrying the weight of a super spec (2850), which I felt was wrong. The 77 owners were told by Rex after the race to take the motor out and HE would take it to Steve at Progressive to be checked, or send someone sometime this week. Tom Sytsma asked Rex to have Brian from Progressive (who was there) to seal it and he would take it to Progressive since he only lives 40 mins. from Progressive. Rex said no. Then the Sytsmas asked who was going to pay to have it put back together and Rex replied “not my problem”. Then the Sytsmas asked “when could we have our motor back because we are going to Punta Gorda Friday and Rex replied “sorry about your luck”. I then asked Rex to call Rusty Crews, director/tech inspector for the FUP series, to check the approved seal numbers, and Rex response was that Rusty was no longer going to be the director of the FUP series, so why call him?

The problem with Rex Guy and I go past Saturday night.

Rex was upset with the FAST series last year when we would not return for the 2nd race at his track. So he went to all the owners of the tracks that the FAST series was going to and have them go with him on a new series, the Florida United Promoters series. The truth about it is the FAST lost money, so we were glad something else came along. We only started FAST to generate late model racing. We just didn’t like how the tracks (Rex) went about it with back door meetings. I have put my differences aside and showed up to every FUP race but one to show I support late model racing.

I was told by Rex Guy on the phone last week that he and Don Cretty were going to control Florida late model racing and the other track owners (Bronson/Punta Gorda) need to get on board. Myself and the rest of you late model racers can only hope that Rex doesn’t control our racing, which we have supported longer than he has been a track owner.

I just personally want everyone to know how this went down. I race for a living and would not take a chance on losing the money I earned. I feel sorry for Tom & Tommy Sytsma for having to go through this BS over a vendetta!

Was this a way to repay the Campis for Rex’s track causing so much damage to their car earlier this year?! I have been racing for 25 years and well respected around the country. I am not a liar or thief, can Rex Guy say the same thing?

I also want to thank Jim Fenton and the Wescott family for giving us a great paying race and the hospitality shown by them this weekend. I just hate the fact that the race was at Auburndale Speedway.

Sorry this was so long but I felt like people need to know the truth.

Unfortunately Wayne Anderson’s weekend got started with a bang and not a good one as he was swept up in an early accident not of his making at Orlando Speed World Friday night. With a heavily damaged car, the team regrouped and Wayne picked up a fine top five the following evening at New Smyrna Speedway.
